Thoughts from the Pastor

Here is some inspiration from my morning devotions:

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” - John 11:41-42

After Jesus prayed this prayer, he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raises him from the dead!  This is one of Jesus' greatest miracles recorded in scripture.  Lazarus, dead for 4 days, raised from the dead.

I think we can all agree the death is a pretty big problem.  Having no money in your bank account, hating your job, having no job or being sick are all bad things, but they pail in comparison to to being dead!

But here is what we can see from this verse.  In the most extreme of problems, Jesus gives us a glimpse of how we can overcome, "Father, I thank you".  In the response to the challenge in front of Jesus, he show's thankfulness to his Father, and a belief that his Father hears him.  How much more, then, should we respond to life's circumstances with thanksgiving and faith.  With this key, we will see victory!

Unfortunately we tend to respond in the opposite of thanksgiving; complaining and worrying.  Complaining and worrying only magnifies the problem, it doesn't bring us the hope and victory we need!

The challenge is, then, to respond with thanksgiving.  Knowing that, in all our circumstances our God hear us.  Thank you Jesus!
